How does respiration happen in an earthworm?

Biology TSWREIS, Narsingi (State Board) Narsingi, Hyderabad , Telangana Class 12 8 July, 2017

Unlike human beings and many other animals, earthworms lack lungs to respire. They use their skin as an interface to exchange gases between their cells and the environment. Their moist, thin, and vascular skin takes air in (oxygen) and expels carbon dioxide out.
